Timber Sales
Expert guidance through every step of harvesting your timber — so you receive fair market value and a healthier woods for future generations.
Considering a timber harvest can feel overwhelming for many landowners. You might wonder: What is my timber worth? Who can I trust to buy it? How do I harvest without harming my land? Our Timber Sales service exists to answer those questions and handle the entire process for you. We help you plan and execute a timber sale that meets your goals — from maximizing your financial return to ensuring your forest is treated respectfully during the harvest. With Stevens Forestry’s friendly, professional guidance, you can approach a timber sale with confidence instead of worry.
With our Timber Sales service, you can count on us to:
Evaluate Your Timber: We start with a thorough assessment of your woods, including estimating the volume and value of marketable timber. This pre-harvest valuation gives you a clear understanding of what you have before any trees are cut.
Develop a Harvest Plan: We’ll mark boundaries and select the right trees for harvest based on your objectives. The harvest plan is designed to meet your goals and uphold sustainable forestry practices.
Coordinate Qualified Buyers: Stevens Forestry handles buyer coordination on your behalf. We tap into a network of reputable local timber buyers — including loggers, sawmills, and procurement foresters — and invite competitive bids. By fostering a competitive market for your timber, we help secure the best price for you.
Oversee the Harvest: Throughout the logging operation, we represent you in the field. We monitor the harvest closely to make sure the loggers follow the plan, protect your land (such as minimizing damage to remaining trees and soil), and adhere to any best management practices required. You can expect regular updates and peace of mind that the work is being done right.
Handle the Details: From preparing the timber sale contract to monitoring compliance and final close-out of the sale, we take care of the paperwork and technical details. In the end, we ensure you receive proper payment and that your property is left in good shape post-harvest.
During the harvest itself, Stevens Forestry acts as your eyes and ears. We typically check the site regularly (often weekly or more) while logging is underway. We ensure the loggers are following the agreed practices, such as respecting buffer zones near streams, only cutting marked trees, and keeping safety and environmental impact in mind. If any issues arise, we address them on the spot to protect your interests. After the cutting is done, we do a final inspection with the logger to make sure all contract conditions were met (for example, debris removal or road repair if it was in the contract). We’ll make sure you receive the final tally of volume cut and the payment as outlined in the contract. Finally, we can discuss any next steps for your land’s recovery and future growth, such as planning for regeneration if needed.
When you choose Stevens Forestry for your timber sale, you’re choosing a partner who puts your goals first. Having overseen many timber sales, we bring local market knowledge and experience to the table. We know which mills or buyers are looking for certain products, and we stay up-to-date on timber market trends. This means we can time and market your sale to maximize your return. At the same time, we never lose sight of the long-term condition of your woods. We follow strict ethical standards and sustainable harvest guidelines, so your forest will be in good shape after the harvest — ready to keep growing for the future. Our clients appreciate the peace of mind that comes from having a professional manage the process, and many tell us that our involvement not only earned them more money for their timber, but also saved them a lot of stress.
